Jelena helped out at one of the radio stations that were broadcasting uncensored news. But the fighting worsened, and by NATO was threatening to bomb Belgrade. Her mother, a civil engineer, was offered a job in Britain, at Aberdeen University. And so, aged 12, Jelena moved to Scotland.
